April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month. We have 10 days left in the month and I have $3.0 left to raise to make my first half goal of $10.0.

April is also my month to give back.  I support the the Michael J Fox Research Foundation through donations and most important making people aware of this awful disease. Yes, I have Parkinson’s so it is obvious that I am passionate about finding a cure and I will give as many $$$’s possible and climb as many mountains and talk to as many people about it because quite frankly people should not have to go through the ups and downs, the pain, the debilitating effects that it has on ones life. I know I sound angry… I am however, I am also truly grateful that I can speak up and fight for finding a cure. I have bad days but the good days and support I get far outweigh my bad days and nights…..uch!!! I hate those bad nights.

Please take some time to visit Michael J Fox Research Foundation.org and read some of the latest blogs. Posted April 22nd is “Clinical Trails for Parkinson’s are saving my life” also April 22nd “Calming activities may decrease stress, improve well-being”…….everyone could benefit by reading this one.

I must tell you that I have recently added Foam Roll to my workout routine. Once or twice a week I go to the Winter Park Y and  after a good physical workout I Foam Roll.  It “rolls” out my tired muscles from both 24/7 Parkinson’s and a workout.  Try it, it has many more benefits.

So far this month I have seen Dr. Greaves who has given me a script for Altitude Sickness. I have seen my neurologist who gave me advice on making sure I have a emergency dose of Levo-dopa just in case I stress out on Kilimanjaro which will escalate my symptoms of Bradyinesia and Rigidity. I really don’t want to be in freezing weather, in a tent, on a mountain with these elevated symptoms. Great advise well taken.  In a few days I am off to Shands for my 6 month check up.  This one is short, not the long fun-filled day with speech, swallow, movement therapists…. I’m not kidding, I really love those days. This one is to check meds, ask questions for research purposes.

126 more days left till we start our journey up the mighty Kili !!!!!!

I also am very passionate about the American Heart Associations…Go Red (Red Dress) program.  Macy’s is one of the major corporate sponsors of this program. Through the years that I have been with Macy’s I have come to know many of the wonderful people that work for AHA and the work they do to make so many women aware that Heart attacks are the #1 reason for death in Women.  Through their programs they bring awareness as to the symptoms of a heart attack in women…so different to men.

On a personal level, I know that if I do not take care of myself and make sure that I am heart healthy my condition could get worse far quicker.

We just had a fantastic in store event with the Circle of Red sponsors for AHA. This was hosted by Sue Shoemaker Sales Manager of Macy’s and Edwina Director for American Heart Association.
