Today Earl and I put on our “mountain shoes” , fill the backpack with water and stepped out on our first 5 mile test hike. What we learned…. Don’t forget Chapstick, need better socks and hips began to ache. We did practice taking deep slow breaths needed for higher altitude, they did make us feel somewhat light headed but slowed our heartbeat and we were less tired. My socks and shoes are perfect however, Earl needs hiking socks, his feet hurt and any longer distance he would get blisters. Although we did have water we could of done with hard candy to keep moisture in our mouth. Overall very pleased. Sunday planned to step it out in the woods, a different terrain….see how that goes.
