A few Sunday’s ago I was geared up with boots on ready for a day of hiking, I looked at my phone and see a friend of mine had text me saying “turn the TV onto to CBS” (could of been CNBC or CNA or something). Thinking it was something about work I amble down to what is known as the Tea Room. I turn on the TV scrolling up and down trying to find something work related. Now, I am not a TV watcher, but I am a news junky I use my iPad to read the news…so CNN, CNBC etc on the TV are foreign to me as to what channel they are on. So, OK…..I send back “what exactly am I looking for?”
I’m directed to an interview/story by Leslie Stahl on how boxing can slow/or reverse the effects of Parkinson’s. I found it on my iPad and read/listened to every word….now, I knew that boxing was good for our Parkinson’s muscles and in fact started boxing when first diagnosed. This story ignited a fire which I shared with my kids. Cut a long story short……they are both registered to train with a program called Rock Steady. They will be trained to become boxing trainers specifically for people with Parkinson’s.
Fast forward a few days…..I come home and guess what Earl has got for me….yep…a bag and speed bag. Where do I put this big piece of equipment?? Well, the Tea Room has double doors out onto the court yard, it’s own full bathroom, music/tv, couch, art work, grandkids toys, tea pots and tea cups……perfect! It is now referred to as the Tea Bag Room.
Pink gloves have been on several times. It’s great I don’t have to look gym cute, I just get home after work pull on pj bottoms, make a pot of tea, turn on music….gloves on, punch the heck out of Parkinson’s ..relax on the couch. How damn brilliant is that.
